A fantastic trip which
overshadowed our trip to Bali and Yogyakarta. We
happened to come on the full moon and thus got
to see two pagoda festivals, which always fall
on the full moon. (Very important to schedule
your trip according to the full moon).
Bagan was absolutely amazing--and no tourists
are there. The hotels we booked (Savoy in Yangon
and Thiripyitsaya Sakura in Bagan) were much
cheaper through Journeys and we loved them both.
Be sure to eat at the Sakura- incredible food
and view over the river at sunset. The service
at the Sakura is like the Four Seasons- doting
but not intrusive. The driver for Journeys in
Yangon was
amazing- like a tour guide in himself. In Bagan,
you do not necessarily need a tour guide since
the horse cart drivers (we recommend Sein, horse
cart #3, outside the Sakura) speak excellent
English and know all the history. You may also
meet a young boy named Lin Lin biking around
Bagan, and he also knows all the history and is
truly charming and lovely.
Journeys did a fantastic job of working with us.
Ms. Ngu Wah was very flexible, changed dates and
changed plans for us, and booked us on the
airlines with good safety records. I was worried
about working with a travel agent I found
online, but Journeys was absolutely responsible
and wonderful. We will work with them again when
we return to Myanmar- hopefully soon!
